Basic Theory
In their natural state, human beings function as an integrated whole - in balanced communication and interaction within themselves and with the universe at large. When we experience painful situations (such as neglect, abuse, or injury) humans, like other animals, have the capacity to "split" or "dissociate." We keep the awareness, feeling, and memory of the traumatic event unconscious (apart from working consciousness). Young animals are especially vulnerable, due to the delicacy of their fragile, undeveloped systems. Humans, with their exceptionally long period of child development, are in greater danger than most species.

An interesting alternative to traditional therapy, eh?
