Dot Com Dummies

Recently, I've had to give a lot of thought to purchasing a domain name. In my search for good ones that were available, I found that while most were already taken, not one of them was actually a website. Although, quite a few lead to pages giving information on how to contact the owner so that you can buy it from them. No matter, though. It doesn't really serve any purpose for me to pay anymore than $35 for one. Maybe I'd pay a little more for a really good one. Overall, I think the domain name craze has parished. But I think most people who purchased dozens of them, with the intention to more or less hold them for ransom, are still living in somewhat of a denial. I'll bet you my first choice domain names, that were already taken, would probably cost me at the very least, over $100. Not only can I not imagine why anyone would spend that much, it would appear that nobody does. If people did, I would have been greeted with websites instead of web pages warning me to buy the domain quickly before someone else does. This makes me think of when I first came onto the internet several months ago. At first, I was very creative and enthusiastic in thinking up all sorts of dot coms to type into my browser. After only a couple of weeks, I stopped doing that altogether. Since most of them lead to nowhere, it seemed like a waste to continue. And I'm sure that's probably the case for most people. It's time to face reality. You're not going to get rich off these things. And God help the schmuck stupid enough to to pay an obscene amount of money for a better then average one. If it's the kind that people will simply think up and type in, and you haven't anything worth coming to see, nobody will ever come back once they've been there. And if in fact you do have a website with quality content, it doesn't matter how long and difficult to remember the url is. People will find your site in the search engines and if they like it, they'll bookmark it. With all of these things considered, I think it's time for the people who greedily scooped up every decent domain name in existence to simply accept defeat. ... Link (0 comments) ... Comment
